I created this pattern at the start of lockdown, and I am so happy about the process in which it came together. My inspiration came from wanting to use up the spare yarn I had hanging out in my yarn stash. I also have been admiring all the crochet tops I pinned on Pinterest. So, I challenged myself to get started and make something of my own! I grabbed spare yarn and got started with a design that would be fun for me to wear.
I liked the loose breezy fit it had because I never want to be stuck in tight clothes in summer. I chose blue colors because I thought they matched a summery feeling, and I added striped because I was woking with spare yarn. I added button holes to the sides, and used some spare buttons I had from another Etsy order. The fringe detail came as a last minute inspired moment when I was weaving ends in. I liked the wild loose look of the yarn tails, and I decided to bring them to the front as a detail.
In writing the pattern, I made sure to include alot of optional details for people who wouldn’t want to add accessories or didn’t have extra buttons lying around. So the pattern is written for both button closure and without buttons. Also, I have instructions for optional fringe because not everyone is into that 😛
The Best Part
The best part of writing this pattern was having it tested. I posted it on Ravelry in the the Free Pattern Testers Group. If you have ever posted to that group before, you may know it takes alot of editing to get approvals. It was my first time posting to the group, and I was looking at other poster’s feeds for help. This is how I came across @Freckledgirlknits. I reached out on Instagram, just to say hey and hang in there. When she responded back, we ended up chatting and eventually working on each other’s projects. How fun! It was so nice to make a friend, and also to have someone to work along side with through the testing process.
I am so happy I came out with this pattern when I did, and went the extra mile to get the pattern tested. The best part was making a new friend, and even better I get to share new pattern that I created with you. I hope you all check out my pattern on Etsy, and remember to like the post on Instagram for the special discount code!
Have you ever made a crochet or knit top before? What are your experiences?
